With the assistance of 2 Canon 430EXII Speedlites I was able to come up with some really awesome looks. I wanted to test multiple scenarios with this set up. I feel that I was able to accomplish what I set out to do pretty well for being a beginner with speedlites. I will be taking a one day workshop in San Francisco the first week in December to help improve this skill. I am really looking forward to it!
It is easy to set up the speedlite and flash gel. The set comes with a gel band that you attach first. After that step you slide the ends into the gel band on both sides and you are ready to go!
I set up my usual victims first, Sheriff Woody & Buzz. I don't know why I always test new things out on them. Maybe because they have the perfect catch lights and never move! This was fun to try!
I used 2 Canon 430EX Speedlites positioned behind & below my subjects. I illuminated the wall with two different lights and there you have it. It worked great on something small but could it be done with a person who is moving? That was my next challenge.
Set up: 2 Canon 430EXII Speedlites with ExpoImaging Rogue Flash Gels - Buzz Moss Green and Jet Blue/Woody - Bright Red and Oklahoma Yellow.
I decided to set up a shoot with my wee one. All I had to do was show her the pretty lights and said to her "You are a rock star!" and she was sold on the idea. We even put on some music and I gave her a microphone.
Set up: 2 Canon 430EXII Speedlites with ExpoImaging Rogue Flash Gels - Follies Pink and Deep Purple.
I also tested them out with some macro photography. A good friend of mine called this bunny poop on snow. I call it Salt & Pepper.
Set up: 1 430EXII Speedlite with an ExpoImaging Rogue Flash Gel - Steel Green off to the right.
In the next handful of shots I used a couple of beautiful models (Kasie and Cortney) to help me out.
Set up: 2 Canon 430EXII Speedlights with ExpoImaging Rogue Flash Gel - Medium Blue Green to Cortney's right. ExpoImaging Rogue FlashBender Large Positionable Reflector with ExpoImaging Flash Gel - Heavy Frost Diffusion to Cortney's front.
Went for something a little more dramatic.

I had a ton of fun learning how to use the Rogue Flash Gels. I can't wait to continue to learn and incorporate this into my creative photography. I am sure you will be seeing Cortney and Kasie again soon with a new color shining down on them.
